Acquisition International has announced Big Issue Invest as the winner of the 2016 International Fund Award for Most Sustainable UK Investment Fund: SEIF II.
Big Issue Invest has been awarded ‘Most Sustainable UK Investment Fund’ for our Social Enterprise Investment Fund II (SEIF II), as part of the ‘Best Social Investment Services in the UK’ category.
Managing Director, Ed Siegel, commented, “We are delighted to win this award because it recognises the strength and experience of the Big Issue Invest team and shows the power of social investment in driving positive social change.”
Since we started ten years ago, Big Issue Invest has demonstrated the significant benefits that social investment can unlock. We have enabled the expansion of core services that form the backbone of our social welfare and have pioneered investments into creative solutions for tackling some of the toughest social problems. From homelessness and severe social exclusion to financial exclusion and youth unemployment, Big Issue Invest is supporting social enterprises that are leading the way.
To date, SEIF II has invested in 5 businesses including Care and Share Associates, an employee-owned business providing 24/7 domiciliary care to 20,000 people each year and Moneyline, an ethical alternative to the payday lender which provides affordable credit to people excluded from mainstream financial services as well as support to break the cycle of long-term indebtedness.
Following on from the success of our first investment fund (SEIF I), which is now fully committed into 21 different social enterprises, SEIF II is seeking opportunities to invest in businesses with ambitious social impact goals whilst aiming to deliver robust financial returns to investors.
This award recognises that the legacy of these investments will be long lasting, leaving social enterprises stronger, more sustainable and at the forefront of the fight against poverty and exclusion.
The International Fund Awards aim to highlight the investment funds that have managed to achieve remarkable results despite the unpredictable climate in which they operate. The Awards also highlight the managers and specialists whose experience make them the first port of call for savvy investors.
Acquisition International prides itself on the validity of its awards and winners. The awards are given solely on merit and are awarded to commend those most deserving, distinguishing them from their competitors.
Discussing the awards, Coordinator Boris Smyslov commented, “These awards pay tribute to the investment firms and the individuals behind them that have worked tirelessly through tough conditions to produce strong returns for their investors.”
